IMBIBE: The Green Savage

Do you like green beer in hand? I am, Irish, yes I am. I don’t like green beer in hand. Yes, I’m Irish, yes, I am…..

Just because it’s March – St. Patrick’s Day approaches –  doesn’t mean you have to drink green beer. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, if that’s your, erm, thing. However, come on, you still want something green, festive and hopefully boozey. I mean, a good green drink that’s not kale, and not food coloring, is damn well near hard to find.

I was lamenting about my emerald beverage woes to Amanda Leigh, Cicerone certified, bad ass bar manager of the newest Doherty’s in Coventry (Doherty’s Lakeside). Before I could finish my rhyme, she snapped up to the bar, grabbed some green chartreuse and shared her latest creation, made during a recent snowstorm.

Thank the good St. Patrick for snowstorms, green chartreuse and Amanda’s cunning idea.

What: The Green Savage

Found Where: Doherty’s Lakeside in Coventry

Go Get:
2 oz green chartreuse*
1 egg white
Fresh muddled mint
Lemon-lime simple syrup**
Splash lemonade

Make:
Muddle the mint, then pour the ingredients on top, add ice, shake like you’re waving an Irish flag, and strain and pour into a martini glass. Garnish with a lemon peel, twisted, and a sprig of fresh mint.

Grab your glass of Green Savage, take a swill (mind the garnish) and don’t forget:
Éirinn go Brách

*even if did take monks from France to make the liqueur…

**Doherty’s makes their own simple syrups, for use in house-made sodas and drinks
