Providence Gay Men’s Chorus Get Happy

PGMC2The Providence Gay Men’s Chorus have delivered a relentlessly upbeat show with their new spring concert. The theme is “Get Happy,” and the song selections are guaranteed to get you in a happy mood. Under the direction of Kim Kuda, the chorus hit nothing but high notes in their 20-song set. The concerts will continue through Jun 7 at the Providence Public Library.

The show began with an exuberant medley of Beach Boys classics: “Surfin’ USA,” “I Get Around,” and “Fun Fun Fun.” The song selection featured classics including “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” and “Happy Together.” Soloist Stephen Fernandes displayed stunning vocal prowess on the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic “Some Enchanted Evening.” Greg Wright gave an elegant interpretation of “I Can See Clearly Now.” Erik Hanson shined on Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.”

PGMC4The show also featured some lighthearted moments, such as when the chorus members clutched coffee cups for their rendition of the Kander and Ebb song, “Coffee in a Cardboard Cup.” Soloist John Esposito delighted the audience while dressed in German costume and holding a beer stein for “Happy Wanderer.” The PGMC also shone with their performance of “The Way You Look Tonight” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”
