IMBIBE: The Draven

Should you find yourself in need of a respite from the Comic Con fray, take a short walk down to Aurora on Westminster. There, you’ll find so much more than a music venue. But a bar – and a beautiful, fully loaded, revamped menu for the fall. And, if you’re like me, you’ll order The Draven and wonder why it took so long to relax at this particular bar.

“I’ve always liked the Goth culture, and the Crow is one of my fav comic book characters. It’s dark, mysterious and also romantic, and I wanted the cocktail to reflect that,” shared Audrey King, resident cocktail genius at Aurora. King is an artist’s artist – a multi-talented painter with a knack for flavors. Sherry and Mezcal are favorites of hers, so naturally, she went with a smokey, dark-jewel-toned, boozy number that softly lingers.imbibe

Warning: This drink might very well carry your soul.

What: The Draven

Found Where: Aurora Providence ( 276 Westminster St, PVD)

Go Get:
1.5oz Vida Mezcal
.5 oz Cruzan Blackstrap Rum
.5 oz Sherry
.25 oz Cassis
Couple dashes Bitterman’s Tiki Bitters.

Make: Take all but the bitters and stir. Pour into coup. Dash the bitters and garnish with a Crow Lemon Peel, if you have the skills. If not, just go to Aurora. Actually, just go to Aurora anyway.

Shameless plug: I really dig the folks here at Aurora. Ann Boschini heads up the bar program with Audrey as the creative lead. “We open at 5pm, but most of our events don’t happen until later (9pm), so it’s a great place to go after work,” shared Jenny Young, woman in charge of events and more, when I asked why it was so quiet during my visit. In other words – get thee to Aurora for an easy seat at the bar after work.
