The Fatale and The Fabulous: Providence Roller Derby Championship Bout Approaches!

This year’s home season in Providence Roller Derby has demonstrated that all three teams are motivated to fight to the bitter end. Fortunately for The Mob Squad, they remained undefeated against both the Sakonnet River Roller Rats and the Old Money Honeys, thereby clinching their seat in the 2014 Home Team Championship Game at the Rhode Island Convention Center on Saturday, October 11, at 5pm.

The September 14 bout pitted the Honeys against the Rats in a very close, heated battle. Both teams’ jammers reported to the box at the start due to track-cutting penalties, something both teams would struggle with throughout the bout. The lead would also exchange several times with a score of 71 – 70, Honeys ahead, going into the half. After several more track-cutting calls resulting in power jams, the Honeys pulled ahead with a final score of 186 – 163 over the Rats.

In the overall standings, besides victories, it comes down to total points for the season, and the Honeys had one more shot to get enough to guarantee their seat in the championship bout against the Mob Squad. They did just that in an unproduced bout on September 21. In another close game that went into overtime, the Honeys toppled the undefeated Mob 186 – 177.

With the October 11 bout rapidly approaching, the tension is high and it’s either team’s game. Will the Mob Squad put a hit out on the Honeys and make a getaway with this year’s trophy? Or will the Old Money Honeys rev up their Rolls-Royces and run down their opponents for the grand prize?
