Stranger Stories PVD: It’s the first meeting of this new group that features local writers reading from work that relates to the month’s theme. This month’s theme, appropriately, is “Firsts,” and will feature readings by a half dozen local writers (see if you can spot the Motif contributors!). Ada Books, 717 Westminster St, PVD.

Misquamicut Springfest Weekend: A carnival of epic proportions and a generous foreshadowing of summer. Rides from ferris wheels to bumper cars, classic cars, magic shows, jugglers and fire jugglers, plus music from John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band (Fri) and Badfinger (Sat), beer, food and beach. Moonrose Farm Cocktail & Planter Making Class: Join herbalist and cocktail expert Torie Gehlmeyer on Mother’s Day afternoon in the greenhouse at Moonrose Farm. Learn with Torie how to make your own infused spirit, bitters and shrubs, then taste cocktails she prepares from her own infusions. Nibble on small bites while farmer Jordan Goldsmith talks about growing herbs, and make your own herb planter to take home! 4 – 6pm

Mother’s Day Boat Rides: Spend time with mom by having Providence River Boat Company take you around Providence Riverways. 10am – 7pm, Providence River Boat Company, 525 South Water St, PVD.

Victorian Game Night: There’s no Settlers of Catan or D&D here, only the best in 19th century board games. 6pm, Lippitt House Museum, 199 Hope St, PVD.
