Wordsmiths & Storytellers

Askew is hosting a new monthly literary event called Wordsmiths & Storytellers. It will take place on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30pm, and four featured published authors will read from their work at each event.

“Rhode Island has a fantastic array of writers,” event coordinator and author R. Forand said. “This event will be used as a multi-purpose tool that will allow people to hear local authors read their words, get their own work critiqued and network with people with similar interests.”

There will be a writer’s workshop taking place before the Storytellers portion of the show. Aspiring authors can submit up to 300 words to be constructively critiqued. There could be up to four workshop groups, with one of the reading authors facilitating and providing feedback.

“The Wordsmiths portion of the night is exciting,” Forand said. “Not many authors have an outlet to have their writing workshopped outside of a formal course. I hope this night serves as an inspiration that will ultimately take writing in Rhode Island to a whole new level.”

Authors reading at the inaugural event on October 22 will be Heather Rigney, Tabitha Lords, m. r. dimartino and R. Forand.

The first Wordsmiths & Storytellers will take place on Oct 22 at Askew, 150 Chestnut St, PVD. For further information or to submit a writing to be workshopped, email chaptersunwritten@yahoo.com. Facebook event: facebook.com/events/495547470909955
