Like a Horse and Carriage

According to the CDC, RI divorce rates have declined from 2006 to 2016, from 3 divorces per 1,000 people to 2.8 divorces per 1,000 people. Of course the divorce rate is going down! No one is getting married, right? With crippling debt, poor job prospects and a mom who won’t let your spouse move into the family home’s basement with you, who feels like it? Oh, how wrong you are, dear cynical reader. The marriage rate in RI has, in fact, increased from 6.6 marriages per 1,000 people in 2006 to 6.7 in 2016. See that, millennials? You can ruin department stores, bar soap and Applebee’s, but marriage is one outdated institution you can’t touch.
