The 2016 Ocean State BBQ Festival Heats Up The Steel Yard

Summer is upon us and in Rhode Island it means a bunch of things. Trips to the beach, grilling outdoors and relaxing in the sun are just a few activities people will be participating in over the next few months. Now how about a two-day event featuring delicious BBQ, a smoke-off competition, stellar live music and refreshing beverages? That’ll be happening on June 24 and 25 at The Steel Yard on 27 Sims Avenue in Providence as the 2016 Ocean State BBQ Festival makes its presence felt. It’s a family-friendly event that promises to be one of the highlights of the summer for Rhode Islanders.

On the goals behind the festival, co-founder Andy Cutler says, “The Ocean State BBQ Festival was established with several goals in mind: One, to raise the bar of discussion when it comes to great barbecue in Rhode Island. Two, to showcase Rhode Island’s food scene statewide and throughout the region and three, to create eco-friendly events with a social mission. We will be donating a portion of the proceeds to The Steel Yard’s Course Scholarship Fund. Most importantly, this event is being put on by Rhode Islanders who care deeply about our state and creating new opportunities to highlight the creative talent that we have here.”

The opening night on June 24 goes from 5-10pm while June 25 lasts all day from noon-10pm. Single-day and two-day tickets are available in advance and at the door. Live music will be provided by  Biscuit City, Sonny Boy Jorgenson, The Low Cards, Frankie Ranks & The Freeloaders, The Red Pennys and The Silks. Unkle Thirsty and “The King Of Soul Power” Ty Jesso will be spinning records as well. There will also be refreshments courtesy of Revival Brewing Co., Shiner Bock, Sons Of Liberty Spirits, Yacht Club Soda, Granny Squibb Iced Tea and New Harvest Coffee to wash down all the scrumptious barbecue attendees will be savoring.
