Aquidneck Community Table and the Jane Pickens Theater and Event Center in Newport will present Fantastic Fungi, a 2019 documentary that extolls the virtues of — you guessed it — mushrooms! From their use in cooking — lending an umami flavor to recipes — to their medicinal properties used in psychological therapy, these remarkable spores break the mold. Literally. The film will be shown on March 26, aka Fantastic Fungi Day, and coincides with screenings of this movie all throughout the world. Can’t get enough of the magic of mushrooms? Stoneacre Brasserie across the street will offer themed specials for a pre or post-cinema nosh in addition to their regular menu. Tickets for previous showings of Fantastic Fungi have sold out quickly, so make sure you get your seat in advance if you can. There may not be “mush-room” left when the big night rolls around!
