Open and Closed

12 Metre Cafe: Inside the Seamen’s Church Institute, 18 Market Sq, Newport. A seaside cafe along Bowen’s Wharf.

Bar ‘Cino: 22 Washington Sq, Newport. It’s “chee-no” like Al Pacino. This Italian-inspired bar and eatery is open for lunch, dinner and late nights.

Bottega Bocconi: 36 Aquidneck Ave, Middletown. Bringing some Italian cuisine to the Portuguese-saturated East Bay. It replaced Rhea’s Cafe and functions as both a cafe and a market for primo Italian foods. Mamma mia!

Far West: 55 Cromwell St, PVD. Opening this past summer, this drinking den opened in an old factory vault, near Knead Donuts and Long Live Beerworks. We’ve been loving the Instagram posts of their cool drinks during the recent heatwave.

Providence River Pedestrian Bridge: This $22 million project will finally open on Aug 9 at 10:30am, connecting a pedestrian footpath set to stretch all the way to Providence Place Mall.

Wexford Building: Little Rhody’s best, brightest and boring were at the ribbon cutting for this sleek new office building on the old 195 land that’s meant to jump-start innovation, our local leaders’ favorite magic words.

Tesla: 399 Bald Hill Road, Warwick. Opened a new dealership in Warwick, across from Warwick Mall and next to Plato’s Closet. We love an electric car, but we hope Elon Musk’s more griftier ventures like the Hyperloop never come here.

Dorothy Williams: This long-running women’s clothier had been in Wayland Square for over half a century. This is the third upscale retailer on the East Side to close this year.

PJ’s Pub: The Johnston location of this beloved pub and eatery closed last month due to an unsuccessful lease negotiation. The Cranston location located at 1139 Pontiac Ave is still open.
