On Saturday, December 2, the Association of Rhode Island Authors (ARIA) will be hosting their 5th Annual Rhode Island Author Expo. Steven Porter, president of ARIA, says that this event is the largest literary event in Rhode Island. “We have a number of workshops and presentations from a variety of writers,” he said. It features more than 135 authors selling and signing books from a variety of genres, including fiction, non-fiction, children’s, poetry, biographies, memoirs and more.
The keynote author, Marie Force, is Rhode Island’s best-selling romance author. “She’s sold over six million copies of her books,” said Porter. Force will be sitting on a panel with other authors and also will conduct a special presentation about her writing process. The talk will be followed by a book signing.
Among the authors who will be featured at the RI Author Expo, Porter is excited that Jon Land, an author of more than two dozen thriller novels, including the Caitlin Strong series, will be in attendance. “He is a prolific writer and large supporter of our organization,” said Porter.
Porter said that ARIA came about because of a need for more of a literary scene in Rhode Island, a state with thriving theater, music and art communities. “We started this organization because we felt there were so many great authors that no one knew about,” Porter said. ARIA wanted to raise authors up to the same level with the other successful arts and culture scenes in Rhode Island. The RI Author Expo celebrates the success of all of the local authors in the Rhode Island area.
In addition to the presentations, panels and workshops, there will be a writer’s resource area, holiday raffles and a chance to meet Santa. Also, admission is free! The event will run from 10am – 5pm at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet (60 Rhodes Place, Cranston).
