SARA INÁCIO, Providence artist, printmaker, and public engagement maintainer says, “I’ve been into making art for as long as I can remember – I was always the art kid growing up, and by highschool I was vending at markets and doing custom pet portraits on Etsy. Then I went to college for printmaking, and grad school most recently.” They got into art because they always loved to draw. They grew up in Brazil, and they say, “My mom used to do custom paintings on porcelain and fabric, so I definitely had some influence from her also. When trying to decide a career path, I couldn’t imagine doing anything that wasn’t art related.” There are things that you choose, and other things that choose you. It seems like for Inácio, the latter is true. According to Inácio, the inspiration for this cover comes from, “A series of prints I made of birds being held – most of them were birds that were found injured in some way – much of my work is about the complex relationships between human and non-human beings. This series is also about a feeling of comfort and fear that can come from holding or being held.” Winter brings a bit of something different to everyone, and for Inácio it is a time to “slow down, rest, and hibernate. I wish this is something we humans could do.” Even so, they make sure to stay active and get outside in the winter. Inácio recounts that they love “going out in the first snow and letting my dog run around in it! She hates the cold, but she gets very excited at first, and it’s really cute.” Some new projects include a collaboration with The Outsider Collective in Pawtucket, and a grant through Interlace to lead a bigger project there. They continue to find “alternative worlds, ways of existing, engaging and making”.
