All You Ever Do Is Give, Give, Give!

People in the arts are often long on passion, but short on cash, and rely on their community to support their efforts. Motif‘s mission is to support the arts because a world without creativity is  not one we want to live in. To that end, we’ve rounded up a few causes you might want to support in this season of giving.

Mark Cutler, arguably one of the most well-known musicians in RI, is dealing with a throat cancer diagnosis. To support him, check out his GoFundMe page or attend his benefit concert on January 19 at The Met. Savvy Giving by Design Rhode Island has a mission to help kids dealing with life-threatening illnesses by redecorating their bedrooms, where they spend an unfortunate amount of time. Check out their GoFundMe page to help.

RI has a ton of aspiring writers, and the Association of Rhode Island Authors (ARIA) needs our support so they can better support local authors. Donate at their GoFundMe page. If you’re a global thinker and a local actor, consider acting to help Syrian immigrant Youssef Akhtarini open his own baklava bakery in PVD by donating through his GoFundMe page.

Motif is staffed by people involved with the arts, many with their own projects. Our theater editor, Terry Shea, is working toward opening his own theater, West Bay Community Theater. Help him out by donating through GoFundMe. Our theater writer Shannon McLoud is a teacher at Providence Career and Technical Academy and runs her school’s drama club. You can support her club by donating through Fundly and helping kids put on shows.

And now for the moment when we become completely shameless … Motif could use some help sustaining itself, and if every one of our readers donated $1 a year to us, we could better support ourselves, the arts and our quirky little community. Check out our Patreon page (patreon.com/motifri) to donate.
