Spoonbread and Strawberry Wine

Stages of Freedom is an organization dedicated to creating and providing programming about the culture and lives of black Rhode Islanders and providing inner-city youth with access to museums and live performances — cultural opportunities they might otherwise not experience. On February 29, Stages of Freedom is holding Spoonbread and Strawberry Wine, a culinary experience and talk with Norma Jean Darden, named in honor of the cookbook Darden wrote with her sister, which eventually became an off-Broadway play. Darden is a model turned restauranteur, who now owns a catering business and restaurant in Harlem.

All proceeds from the Spoonbread and Strawberry Wine event will go toward Stages of Freedom’s Swim Empowerment program, which aims to create a new generation of swimmers in the Rhode Island African American community.

Spoonbread and Strawberry Wine takes place on Feb 29 at noon at the Central Congregational Church, 296 Angell St, PVD. For tickets and more information, go to stagesoffreedom.org/spoonbread
