A mix of modern garage rock and vintage soul is present within the Seratones’ sound. Energetic, unapologetic and unbridled is the best way to describe what they have going on. The rawness of it all is the icing on the cake with a genuine no-nonsense approach. It’s bound to sock you in the mouth and get you back on your feet with their debut Get Gone. Rigid grooves and righteous moves are all over this one, so you better get down with it or abide by the album’s title.
AJ Haynes breeds sexiness with her provocative delivery while Connor and Adam Davis on guitar and bass blend perfectly with Jesse Gabriel’s beats on drums. It’s bluesy rock ‘n’ roll adorned with scorching hot guitar solos that’ll fuzz your face off. What makes it incredible is the grooviness within each track off of Get Gone; Haynes’ voice is the anchor while the rest of the band feeds off of her confidence. People will be dancing when the play button is pressed and it’ll start a party. Good time rock music with a heavy dose of soul.
By witnessing both a garage rock and Motown revival exploding before my very eyes, it’s only fitting that bands like the Seratones are bringing both styles together. Coming out of Shreveport, Louisiana, you wouldn’t expect a band like this to come from the bayou. It’s definitely swampy though, so get swampy while checking out my top tracks off of the Album Of The Week:
Adam Davis’ guitar shines and Gabriel’s drums shine on “Sun” while Haynes wails about social discord and how people like to talk. Say what you want, she don’t care. “Kingdom Come” sounds a bit jazzy at first and then when that solo hits, your mind will melt. The best example of Haynes’ provocative confidence is “Choking On Your Spit,” definitely one for the haters who never know when to shut up. Music with a fist in your grill and you won’t be able to dodge it.
Unfortunately for us in New England, the Seratones won’t be coming through our neck of the woods, but if you’re willing to make the trip, head down to Richmond, Virginia, on June 3 and go see them blow the roof off Brown’s Island. Let’s hope they come up north soon, but until then grab their copy of Get Gone and give it a listen. It’s some badass stuff that shouldn’t go ignored.

They were in Cambridge in April, opening for the Dandy Warhols. They were amazing!
