A massive festival, Misquamicut style, with amusement park rides, rock climbing, food, drink, live music and warming beaches that MIGHT prove swimmable. This draws many thousands of folks each year, with about 70 vendors bringing food, crafts and more, steel drums, karate demos, a classic car show, fire jugglers (not too near the cars) and intense musical performances.
Friday’s musical line-up is anchored by Firefall, a band that spans more than 40 years with no signs of slowing down. They’ve produced three gold albums, two platinums and 11 chart-topping singles. The band’s biggest hit, “You Are the Woman” has been played on commercial radio more than 7,000,000 times and has also appeared in many movies and television shows. Other hits include “Strange Way,” “Cinderella,” “Mexico,” and “Just Remember I Love you,” which were staples of the airwaves in the 1970s and early ’80s.
This year’s Saturday night headliner will be five-time Grammy winning, Golden Globe winning, Oscar winning Christopher Cross (hey, we should give that guy a Motif award, so he’ll have a full set). Cross will perform some of the 39 top-40 tunes he’s come up with in his career. Grammy nominated multi-platinum artist John Ford Coley (“I’d Really Love To See You Tonight,” “Nights Are Forever Without You”) opens.
