Granite’s Charlie Brown Is Silly Fun

You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown is a musical version of the beloved Peanuts, the long-running comic strip.

Creator Charles Schulz depicted human frailty in the ongoing saga of Charlie Brown, the endearing sad sack who faces endless heartbreak and disappointments.

You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown features all the famous characters: There’s Charlie’s ditzy sister Sally (Courtney Littlefield), the overbearing Lucy, sensitive Linus (Lucas Pereira) who carries a blanket like a shield, brilliant musical prodigy Schroeder (Hassan Demartino), and Snoopy, Charlie’s faithful dog.

The show is a heartfelt and affectionate rendering of this classic group of misfits, performed with style and energy by a talented cast.

James Auger is a winning presence as Charlie, who is dealing with a lot of self-doubt. Charlie is too afraid to speak with the girl he likes in the school cafeteria, so he places a bag over his head. Danielle Conti has a lot of fun as Lucy, who sings about her dream of ruling the world (Queen Lucy). Jane Mandes brings a quirky, offbeat personality to Snoopy, who is baffled by the antics of the people around him. The entire cast shines on the closing song, “Happiness,” a touching tribute to enjoying the simple things in life.

If you’re a fan of Peanuts and enjoyable musical comedy, then this show will be to your liking.

You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown runs through November 13. Granite Theatre. Westerly. For tickets, call 401-596-2341. www.granitetheatre.com
