Making It Rain: A Flood of Projects Drops This Fall

camProjects are dropping like leaves this fall, with a lot of artists teasing fans with singles to give them a preview of what’s to come. You’re not gonna need a sweater. Things are just heating up.

With two singles out for our listening pleasure — “Swervin” and “Timing” — Cam Bells is prepping the release of a new project, CBPVD, the follow-up to his 2017 project Young King, Old Soul. CBPVD takes a 180 degree turn of sound from the 2017 EP. CBPVD will be mainly an R&B project as Cam looks to showcase his vocal abilities.

Despite calling Massachusetts home, rapper WHYTRI can be found more times than not in our very own state. He also will drop off a new project in the near future titled ABP (A Bad Porno). Slated to be a two-sided project, side A of ABP is led by GUESSWHOIDK.

A couple more fall projects come from two younger acts. The first of the two is Hamad, a talented young artist who can rap, sing and produce for himself. He has a slew of singles out, including my favorite, “Blame On Me.” Hamad’s project was set to drop earlier this summer, but has been riddled with delays. It’ll be good to see this one find the light of day. Next is afrobeats artist Olu. Earlier this year, he stepped out with a great cover of Mr. Eazi’s “Pour Me Water” and returned with a new track of his own titled “Jéjély.” And just like that, Olu was two-for-two. Stay tuned for more coming this fall.

Keeping their foot on the pedal, the folks at Problem Child Records (PCR) look to keep things moving with a number of potential projects. After dropping his debut solo project, Show & Tell, earlier this year, $wifty has a number of projects ready to be released this fall. These include a possible joint EP with producer sadboypari, a possible solo tape, and $wiftly Empty the Mag 2, the follow-up to his 2016 mixtape with Mags. All three may see the light of day by year’s end. The last two members of PCR, Mags & Sen, have both been building up quite the resume thanks to singles like “Guess What,” “Dreamer,” “Drive” and “Badgyal.” Expect more from these two this fall.

Speaking of labels, The Crew also has some artists who are getting ready for the fall. After dropping Heart & Soul EP, which was a very impressive output, Cassius is gearing up to return with another project by the end of the year. The upcoming project is led by “Summer Nights” with Edwino, who is also a member of The Crew. Another member is prepping for a fall project as well. And after dropping Fully Loaded Freestyles earlier this year, E is set to have a new project out later this year, which should be led by the MarlinOnTheKeys & Adel-featured “Another Day.”

Drilling listeners with singles, including “Capise,” “With Ease” with Lily Rayne and “On the Low” with Khary, Code Green also is prepping a project for the fall that will serve as the follow-up to their 2016 project 7 Day Trip.

After dropping his Outside Providence project back in 2016, Hil Holla has a simple message for fans this fall: “Be prepared.”

Without a doubt, there are a boatload of projects in the works from artists you may have not heard of. Keep your ears open and unbiased. Our state is flooded with musical talents from all corners and the next star might be practicing in his basement in any one of our cities. You never know what will come out of here, and that’s the glory of our little state.

There are plenty of shows and concerts set to happen this fall, too. Juice WRLD & YBN Cordae (Sep 14) and Wizkid (Oct 5) are set to perform at The Strand, Rich the Kid will take the stage Sep 29 at the University of Rhode Island, and Wyclef Jean (Oct 26) and Lil Yachty (Oct 30) are set to perform at FMH.
