At Providence, precipitation will begin as rain Sun 4pm and change to snow between 6pm and 8pm before ending Mon 2am.
A Winter Storm Warning is posted Sun 1pm – Mon 7am for north and west of Providence, including the city and further into CT and MA, with all of the rest of RI toward the coast under a Winter Weather Advisory for lesser accumulation. However, at the peak of the storm Sun evening, heavy rates of snowfall are possible and travel may be difficult: Providence is likely to experience at least 0.5 inch of snow per hour Sun 7pm – 11pm.
In the metropolitan area, expect 4 – 6 inches with accumulation probabilities: at least 0.1in 99%, 1in 97%, 2in 92%, 4in 68%, 6in 29%, 8in 4%, 12in near 0%.
Extremely cold temperatures will move in afterward with wind chill dropping to or below 0°F Mon, Tue, and Wed nights and afternoon highs at or slightly above 20°F. Some warming to seasonably normal temperatures is expected Thu – Fri, with a 25% chance of more snow Thu.
