Yarrow Thorne, founder and executive director at The Avenue Concept, recently announced his retirement from the organization after 10 years. His accomplishments are worth celebrating, along with the amazing progress that the non-profit has made, quickly becoming a PVD institution.

The mural and public art projects have contributed mightily to the “Creative Capital” vibe of the city, and changed much of the landscape for anyone strolling about. Programs working with street artists of various kinds and graffiti have also gained a lot of traction, and most escapades into public art in RI now include The Avenue as part of the conversation.

The celebration of Thorne’s retirement was a who’s-who of PVD arts supporters, from David Ciciline to LRI founder Mike Ritz, from Gallery Night board members to philanthropist Charlie Denby. The crowd overflowed the distinctive multi-level event space at the heart of Davol Square, and many enthusiastic speeches recognized the wide net of contributors supporting the organization’s mission to support and nurture public art ecosystems.
