Hello-goodbye: closed and new food spots

As the light fair of the summer gets replaced with heartier menus, Jo’s American Bistro has arrived in Newport just in time at the old Pureini’s. Its  classic American steak-and-potato style dining paired with seafood (it is on an island, after all). Casey’s Bar and Grill on Main Street in Wakefield has finally reopened as Chophouse. The Applebees-esque dining that once occupied the spaced has been transformed into a sophisticated steakhouse.  If you like your meat-and-potatoes with an Irish twist, The Brazen Hen, an upscale Irish Pub and Eatery, has arrived on Canal Street in Westerly. If you’re not quite ready to bid farewell to summer, Tommy’s Clam Shack has boldly opened its doors and massive patio minutes away from Iggy’s on Warwick Ave.

If you like your grub to go (and between two slices of bread), UMelt has opened a new location on Weybosset Street. This is not your mother’s grilled cheese with selections like a mac and cheese patty melt and french toast grilled cheese.  Sombrero Mexican Grill has brought another carry-out authentic Mexican eatery to Cranston, giving the Taco Bell down the street a run for its money (hopefully).  Arriving in the revamped and reopened Providence Arcade is New Harvest Coffee Roasters. The artisan bean shop is expanding from their original home in the Hope Artiste Village. The East Bay finally has the gastro pub its been waiting for with the arrival of Chomp Kitchen and Drinks in Warren.

CLOSED

Eleven Forty Nine is back to a single location with the closing of its Seekonk location, though the East Greenwich spot remains open.  Oki Japanese Steakhouse on Mineral Spring Ave has also turned off their hibachi grills and closed their doors. Finally we say goodbye to The Cactus Grill (see “opened” to heal your broken heat with more Mexican food).
