July 16 kicks off Providence Roller Derby’s most intense series of bouts: Home Season. The all-stars of the league split off into three teams: The Mob Squad, The Old Money Honeys and last year’s champions, The Sakonnet River Roller Rats. Recognizable veterans and new faces to PRD will be joining the members of the post-season travel team skaters.
The July 16 season opener at the West Warwick Civic Center will feature the rematch from last year’s championship: the Rats vs. the Mob. Rats’ co-captains #078 PEZ DispensHER and #2468 Sis Boom Bonnie expressed their attitude with their team’s cheer.
“Destroy! Destroy! Because that’s what we’re going to do in 2016!” said PEZ.
The Mob Squad, a team with the highest retention rate from last year’s roster, is looking to seek vengeance for last year’s defeat against the Rats. As part of this year’s lineup, the Mob has acquired the recently retired legendary veteran Baby Fighterfly to their bench management.
“Ten years on skates, so she’ll be an amazing asset as our coach,” said #22 Citizen Toxie, Mob’s co-captain along with #31 Smashley Olsen.
Even though they must wait for their August bout, The Old Money Honeys will be in attendance. Not only will they be volunteering to support the league, but they will be scoping the competition. It’s been five years since the Honeys took home the championship, and co-captains #83 Delta Bravo and #729 Roxy ElbowYa are ready to change that.
“Enough is enough,” said Delta. “The Mob are cute. The Rats are swell, but it’s time!”
The laces are tightened, the focuses are sharpened, and the home season is about to begin. To buy tickets or find out information on the home season bouts, go to ProvidenceRollerDerby.com or like them on Facebook keyword: Providence Roller Derby.
