Out Loud Theatre Presents Tour For Social Change

massiveOut Loud Theatre will launch a Tour for Social Change, a series of performances focusing on women and body image.

From April 10 through the 12th, there will be performances of The Most Massive Woman Wins at the Mathewson Street Theater in Providence. The play was written by Madeline George and is being directed by Kira Hawkridge. Shows will begin at 7:30 pm.

Set in the waiting room of a liposuction clinic, The Most Massive Woman Wins is a journey through the present day lives and past experiences of four very different women. Massive jumps between collective expression, individual monologues and flashbacks to significant moments in their lives. It is all about their bodies, their relationship with their bodies and how that has shaped their sense of self.

The cast features Siobhan LaPorte-Cauley,  Christine Cauchon, Sarah Leach,  Amelia Giles and Emily Hill.

The performance will also feature a photography exhibit by Justine M. Johnson (featuring the cast of Massive), and an active dialogue component: a “Join the Conversation” Initiative.

On May 4, The Most Massive Woman Wins will be performed at Mathewson St. Theater as part of “This Is Free Providence,” an annual festival of performance promoting dialogue around art. The festival runs May 2 through the 4th. The performance begins at 7:30 pm.

On May 9 and 10, the play will be performed at The Contemporary Theater Company, 327 Main Street, South Kingstown, RI. Performances start at 7 pm.

This tour was made possible because of the festival, “This Is Free Providence,” put together by Karen Gager of HeadsUp, Inc, Erik Ehn of The Tenderloin Opera Company, and the Mathewson Street United Methodist Church.

Guest speakers include Olivia Lane, a health coach trained at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and Jen Silbert, the Founder & Curator of Learning401. Silbert is an advocate for learning and civic engagement and a convener of inquiry-driven solution-focused change.

Other featured guest speakers include members of the discussion team who will help to moderate and lead the talk back discussions as they visit high school, college, and university locations. The goal of the discussion team is to generate conversation among the cast and to share insights, stories and research based on this and surrounding topics.

The Mathewson Street Theater is at Mathewson Street United Methodist Church, 134 Mathewson Street, Providence.

Inspired by three main areas of focus: a Discussion Team, an open and online Blog, and a Talk Back Series after each performance of Madeline George’s The Most Massive Woman Wins; OUT LOUD strives to create an open dialogue through the eyes of artist, activist, and individual.
