Fall Guide

Pumpkin isn’t the only spice: Take a peek at the new, exciting flavors coming to you this fall

Folks, it is finally here! The season that many anticipate with excitement has finally arrived. September rolls in, and before you know it, October arrives with that cooler weather and the most beloved (and most debated) fall seasonal drinks. As the summer heat fades and cravings shift, pumpkin spice makes its grand return.

Here are a few of my favorite local coffee shops so you can see what flavors they are brewing up for the fall.

Sydney Cafe

Starting off strong, Sydney Cafe brings a chic touch to fall, pairing cozy vibes with high-quality ingredients. More than just a spot to grab coffee, it is the perfect place for catching up with friends or sneaking in a quick study session. Offering two locations, one on Thayer Street near Brown University and another in downtown Providence, this cafe balances productivity with fun. Its lively environment, combined with a delicious and vibrant menu, can be quite distracting as it invites you to enjoy the present with your loved ones.

The window bar seating is perfect for snapping that Instagram-worthy shot, and the drinks don’t disappoint either. From signature lattes and refreshers available year-round to their creative seasonal menus, Sydney always delivers something for every palate. This fall, expect favorites like a warm chai latte dusted with cinnamon or a refreshing iced chai with brown sugar syrup topped with pumpkin spice cold foam.

Visit Sydney Cafe at either 300 Thayer St., PVD, or 400 Exchange St., PVD.

The Coffee Cup

Tucked inside Providence Place Mall, The Coffee Cup is a cozy gem designed to brighten your day with playful drinks and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re winding down after a shopping spree or simply exploring new flavors, this small shop makes for a delightful stop. The environment is lively, the menu constantly evolving, and the hardest part might just be choosing what to order.

Like many coffee shops, The Coffee Cup curates a special seasonal menu with the help of its employees. The switch-up each year depends on the pool of employees, as explained to me by one of the baristas. This fall, be on the lookout for a delectable pumpkin chai with brown sugar cold foam that will warm your insides, no matter if it is hot or cold.

Small Point Cafe

There is a special place off Westminster Street in Downtown that houses a unique ambience. Adorned with brick walls and low lighting, this cafe makes a comfortable place for anyone to simply exist. However, the fun does not just stop with their special drinks or signature foods. It offers you a regular selection of coffee along with some refreshing drinks like their Taro Lemonade or Hot Blood Orange Tea. You can also definitely expect some fall favorites. The best thing about Small Point is that their seasonal menu is always changing. Last year, you could have chosen a classic pumpkin pie latte. This year, the baristas recommend getting brown butter syrup in a latte. You can enjoy it with some walnuts, or without, along with the brown sugar butter.
