
If you’ve ever enjoyed a meal at Pawtucket’s Garden Grille or a vegan dessert at Wildflour (or back in the day at the still-missed Grange in PVD), you have Rob Yaffe to thank. His passion for all things vegan led him to create and lead these fine establishments, providing some of the first and most popular local dining options for those with dietary restrictions or those seeking to avoid meat. In the process, he set standards to new heights for conscientious sourcing of ingredients and proved to many skeptics that plant-based food can be tasty and nourishing. We are saddened to report that Rob Yaffe passed away on Wednesday (Feb 12) after an unexpected and brief hospitalization. Age 70, he passed surrounded by family, at Miriam Hospital. An icon of the plant-based movement, he will be missed by many, and his significant mark on the local food culture will be long-lasting. •
