American Caesar Salad
Letter from the editor

Elon Musk has asked us to forward the following email to all Motif readers:

Please tell us what you have read in the past week. If you have not read enough of Motif’s content, you will no longer be allowed to read Motif. To quote my boss, “You’re Fired.”

We declined to email y’all. We definitely care whether you’re reading, but we view emails like this as… questionable. Assessing the value of something isn’t something we can pull off with a single email. Whether it’s reading material, or a job position, you don’t blunder in without knowing what it is and threaten to end it over a single email. We do enjoy the irony, however, that as people grapple to understand whether Musk or Trump is in charge, the catchphrase made famous by The Donald has now been delivered thousands of times more often by The Elon.

Spanning the gulf

We just can’t support calling it the Gulf of America, but as members of the press we’re meant to not call it the Gulf of Mexico anymore either. OK – names change and language evolves, fine. But whatever are we to call it now? In the spirit of the late great Phillipe & Jorge, who gloried in creating snarky nicknames for, well, pretty much anything, we thought we’d gather some suggestions for other things we could call this water-filled crater created by an extinction-sized meteor some odd 65-million years ago, and now the subject of an extreme identity crisis.

JD Did It

After verbally bullying and gaslighting the president of the Ukraine, Trump’s revisionist history campaign will be issuing a series of brochures from “Up is Down Press” with titles ranging from “AfricanAmericans Were Really Responsible for the Slave Trade,” to “How Native Americans Created Small Pox,” to “Why President Washington Was Wrong to Retire After Only Two Terms.” These brochures were to be distributed to every school in the nation, but the administration forgot they were in the process of dismantling the Department of Education, which will likely result in this collection of Doublethink residing in storage lockers at Mar-a-Lago in the short run. •
