Katie Clark stars in The Addams Family at OSTC

Katie ClarkJust in time for Halloween comes a musical production featuring America’s spookiest family. Katie Clark stars as Morticia Addams in The Addams Family: The Musical, which opened at Ocean State Theatre Company on September 30 and runs through October 25.

Clark is having a good time bringing Morticia to life. “She’s fun to play because she doesn’t seem to have that much emotion,” Clark said, noting the role was more of a challenge than she had anticipated.

The cast also includes Steve Gagliastro as Gomez, Kayla Tomas as Wednesday, Brody Karn as Wednesday’s boyfriend, Lucas,  Fred Frabotta as Uncle Fester and Alexander LeBlanc as Pugsley.

Clark said audiences can expect “a lot of laughter, a lot of great jokes, and wonderful music,” along with some elaborate dancing and visual effects. The Addams Family has a lot of warmth as well, Clark noted.

“There’s some really heartfelt storytelling because it’s really about a family and how much they love each other,” Clark said. “There’s some really sweet moments in the show between father and daughter and between husband and wife. I think people will be surprised at how touching the musical is.”

Clark previously portrayed Adelaide in Guys and Dolls and Maggie Jones in 42nd Street at Ocean State Theatre.

Working with her 42nd Street director Aimee Turner once again has been an enjoyable experience, according to Clark. “I’ve literally never met a director as passionate as her. She’s a perfectionist like me and I think that’s why we get along so well.”

Clark has been performing for her entire life. While growing up in Medford, Massachusetts, she appeared as a dancer in several community theater productions.

“I continued to dance, I took voice lessons, I watched every movie musical I could get a hold of,” Clark recalled. “From a very young age, I have always enjoyed making people laugh,” Clark continued. “That is sort of my high. That’s why I love being onstage.”

The Addams Family: The Musical will be presented at Ocean State Theatre thru October 25. The theater is located at 1245 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick, RI. Tickets are $39 for preview performances and $39-$59 for all other performances.  Tickets are also available online 24 hours a day at OceanStateTheatre.org and via telephone during normal box office hours by calling 401-921-6800.
