H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival
August 18, 2023 - August 20, 2023
The H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival® of Cosmic Horror returns to Lovecraft’s hometown August 18-20th at the historic Columbus Theatre (270 Broadway) with a slate of freshly minted horrors from all the dark corners of the earth!
Horror fans and Lovecraft fans alike won’t want to miss the Rhode Island Premiere of SUITABLE FLESH, directed by Joe Lynch, starring Heather Graham, Judah Lewis, and Barbara Crampton, who also produced. The new feature film, based on Lovecraft’s “The Thing on the Doorstep” was adapted for the screen by Dennis Paoli (Re-Animator, From Beyond), long-time collaborator of the late maestro of Lovecraft films, Stuart Gordon.
This year’s festival features more than 35 short and feature films, including the World Premiere of GODS OF THE DEEP, the latest feature from UK-based filmmaker Charlie Steeds, the North American Premiere of the folk horror tour-de-force “To Fire You Come At Last,” written and directed by Sean Hogan, produced by Kier-la Janisse and David Gregory for Severin Films, and the US Premiere of the Welsh language film “The Wyrm of Blwch Pen Barras.”
This year’s short films include an expansive lineup of literary adaptations including two based on Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart” – the gender-flipped “Our Tell-Tale Heart” from Portugal and “Hideous Heart” a sci-fi retelling of the story – plus “A King in Yellow” inspired by Robert W. Chambers, “The Dogs,” adapted from Frank Belknap Long’s “The Hounds of Tindalos,” a rare adaptation of Lovecraft’s “The Temple,” and a version of “From Beyond” set in WWII. Other notable short films include the Kenyan supernatural tale “Grogan’s Lodge,” and original cosmic horrors “Unknown” from Uruguay and “Whisper in The Static” from the US.
The weekend includes Q&As with visiting filmmakers, author readings and panels hosted by the Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council at the Arcade Providence, mixers and after parties, and a walking tour of prominent sites connected with H. P. Lovecraft, led by Donovan Loucks.
Single Day and Full Festival passes are available now through the Columbus Theatre. (https://www.tixr.com/groups/columbustheatre/events/h-p-lovecraft-film-festival-76983)
