“You can’t make a wrong turn” is why downtown Warren is so perfect for wandering on foot. Get off the bus in the middle of town. In every direction are narrow streets full of centuries of well-loved houses, gardens, indy shops, galleries, eateries, and a brewery. If a random walk does not bring you to the working waterfront you may notice your surroundings transition to early twentieth-century suburbia. Check that out too, or turn around and follow the next historic street. When it’s time to leave, you won’t be far from a bus stop. If the #60 is not due right away, you are steps from a nice spot to linger till it is. It’s that simple. To add an extra mile – or several — strolling in the fresh air near the water, start or finish with a visit to Barrington Beach and Brickyard Pond or the Audubon Nature Center and Wildlife Refuge. Both are an easy bike-path-walk to or from downtown Warren. Every street or path on the map is worth a look. No walking tour, itinerary, or must-see list is needed. In this corner of seaside New England, the fun is in discovering your own favorites by wandering attuned to your whims and pace. There is no more to write because the map is all you need!
Note: This and other 2 Feet 2 Bucks maps are sold as postcards at The Map Center, Weird Providence, Heartleaf Books, and other fine stores. You probably know someone who will be delighted to get one in the mail.
