Courier
A simple cannabis themed game for 1-5 players

It’s no secret to anybody who knows me that I am an avid fan of boardgaming, in all of its manifestations. Whether it’s Monopoly, chess, or Dungeons & Dragons, this fascination with miniature playing pieces and dice of all sorts traces back to adolescence, and has stayed with me since. It goes beyond entertainment. In groups it can be an ideal and wholesome way to not just enjoy each other’s company, but also compete. We can take that socialization factor a step further and even label gaming therapeutic. Recent psychiatric journals have exposed the benefits of pen and paper roleplaying games in treating a wide range of patients.

That being said, for this cannabis issue, I wanted to marry my longtime hobby and marijuana. I hope you enjoy it.

“Courier” is a simple party game using only a map of PVD (split up into its 15 political wards) and three, six-sided dice. Players assume the role of a delivery person working for a local, medical dispensary. The goal is to deliver to a destination from an initial placement. From here on out, 3d6 will refer to rolling three six-sided dice; 1d6 will refer to rolling one. The objective of the game is to have the most money in the bank at the end of the 5 turns. Money is banked by making successful deliveries.

Turn Sequence:

Step 1: Each player rolls for initial placement. Roll 3d6, then minus two to get what ward number your avatar starts off in. Note: Triple sixes are ignored and re-rolled.

Step 2: Each player then rolls for where their delivery destination is, as above.

Step 3: Roll 1d6 to determine how many adjacent wards a player can move to make the delivery. IF the required destination is reached, roll 1d6 for how much money is banked (each digit equals $100 of currency). If the maximum of 6 is rolled for movement, the player gets to roll 2d6 for bank amount, instead of 1d6.

Step 4: 1 random event affecting all is rolled for:

Dice roll:

1: State taxes increased: Surrender $200 each

2: Heavy traffic: All movement is -2 next turn

3: It’s a stickup!: Thieves make off with $300 from each player

4: Police checkpoints: All movement is -1 next turn

5: Anti-drug protests: All movement is -2 next turn

6: Heavy demand from customers: Each bank roll is plus $200 next turn

Step 5: Add up every player’s bank after 5 turns, and the one with the most is the winner. A solitaire player can try and beat their previous score, like golf. Enjoy!
