Usually I write a little ditty about a new inspired cocktail recipe and where it lives and which bartending genius created it.
But.
In the course of a grueling work week, it’s not always easy to get to that place to get to that drink or to go there to buy those ingredients to make it at home. Sometimes you just want to close the laptop, walk out the office door and head to the nearest spot for Happy Hour with friends.
For all of you 9-5ers or 8-8ers in the Financial District, we’ve devised a list – a route, if you will – of Happy Hour spots to fit your post-work agendas. Tie your shoelaces, throw off your heels, we’re going for a short trek. While Providence provides a plethora of after work spots, we’re keeping the walking to a minimum to get you to the fastest drinks possible; just a three to six block radius from Dorrance Street to Exchange Street. It’s a hub for business and, it turns out, our favorite pastime: great drinks.
Circe; 50 Weybosset St, Providence
Come here for networking with a long wine list, cold martinis and good deals on Happy Hour bites. Stay for dinner with colleagues.
The Dorrance; 60 Dorrance St, Providence
The darling of Dorrance street thrives under pressure. Have a big crew thirsty to crush amazing handmade cocktails? Go here. Watch the bar team work their magic. Be impressed.
New Harvest; 130 Westminster St, Providence
This sweet spot hunkers down in the middle of the Arcade. If you need a little caffeine and to share some flights of whiskey, go here. Right now they are running Tiki Tuesdays with some seriously inventive drinks. Worth skipping your midweek spin class.
Rogue Island; 65 Weybosset Street #108, Providence
Across from New Harvest in the Arcade sits Rogue Island. If you have out-of-towners or just love local, go here. Local spirits, beers and wine with locally sourced foods shows just how prolific New England is on the gastro front.
Congress Tavern; 62 Orange St, Providence
If you want to lay low, relax, sip a cocktail or drink great beer, stop by. Grab some salty house chips or pizza while you’re at it.
Rooftop at the Providence G; 100 Dorrance St, Providence
For all the cool kids looking to sip on something and view the talent as well as the skyline, take the elevator to the top floor. It’s now open year-round, but the best scene’s happening right about now.
GPub; 61 Orange St, Providence
On rainy days or to meet up with just the boys (or just the girls), walk down, down, down stairs for pool, sports TV and a long list of beers and cocktails.
Ten Steak and Sushi; 55 Pine St, Providence
Once a hot spot, always a hot spot. Yes, you may have had an obligatory work lunch here, but swing by for delicious Happy Hour specials and don’t forget to peek at their drinks.
Red Fez; 49 Peck St, Providence
Street level gives a cozy restaurant feel with funky yet accessible wine and more. Upstairs should bring back some late night memories and if not, time to make new ones with a side of their amazing hummus.
