Louis: The venerable diner has served as a go-to for the local and Brown communities for longer than we can remember – since 1946. It even has a commemorative plaque embedded in the sidewalk out front. Never fancy, always authentic, its greasy breakfast/brunch vibe has been a comfort to generations of patrons. Parente’s: If you’ve worked at Fidelity or attended Bryant University, you’re familiar with the Italian family restaurant that’s sat between the two for the last 42 years. The Parente’s have closed and are selling, with the hopes that another restaurant will pick up the reins. Parente’s was in the news quite a bit a few years ago, when it blocked Bryant’s attempt to open a family-style restaurant, based on unfair competition.
Newport Creamery East Greenwich: Awful, awful news. This spot was a constant supporter of local arts activity and will be missed. The time-honored RI chain still maintains nine other active locations.
Roast House in Pawtucket has roasted its last critter. Their Blackstone location will remain open.
