Pics & Poets: (Submissions closed) Cross pollinating some fine art

Motif is launching a new project that we’ve wanted to do for years. The Pics and Poets project randomly matches 2D artists and poets: Each submits two pieces to share, and their match has two weeks to either write a poem inspired by the artwork, or create a piece of artwork inspired by the poem. Sign-ups have already begun at motifri.com/picspoets – or you can email dana@motifri.com with your submission. If you would like to take part, we expect to have a lot of fun – the deadline to sign up and submit two pieces (pre-existing ones are fine) is Monday, Oct 2. We’ll ask participants to create the new work inspired by your pairing between Oct 13 and Oct 29.

All work will be presented in a gallery-format show, and there will be readings of the written work at the opening event (each poet has the choice to read their own or have it read). The event will take place at the WaterFire Arts Center, 475 Valley St, PVD on Thursday, Nov 9. It will be in conjunction with Divine Providence, a month-long show by local arts icon Umberto Crenca, whose show also combines art and poetry to capture aspects of our capital city.

Two-dimensional work may be sold at prices specified by the artist.

Poems will be published in Motif and posted online.

There will be cash awards for audience and judge favorites. At the moment, up to nine winners will receive between $100 and $200 each, sponsored by patrons of the arts at R1 Indoor Karting.
We hope you can join us in pioneering this new venture to celebrate the collision of multiple art forms. There’s no fee to enter this first time around. Questions are also always welcome!
