If you haven’t heard, The Arcade is hosting a Winter Farmer’s Market for the holiday season. Over 18 vendors with their wares, from delicious agriculture to handmade goodies, will be there for your buying pleasure every Sunday from 10am – 2pm. I found this by accident last Sunday, when faint from holiday shopping and in need of boozy caffeine, I stumbled into the Arcade looking for New Harvest and Rogue Island.
Both are offering delicious libations and treats during this time. I may have stopped at both to confirm and erm, drink, their wares. New Harvest has designed an entire Bloody Mary menu for your brunching, day drinking, holiday shopping revival. It seems odd that a bar known for their whiskeys also has this – but go, and once you go, you’ll get that this crew also has a fondness for the fine craft of making a damn good drink.

Ben Terry, manager of New Harvest (see article page XX), created this tasty menu for a little fun and a little play on words.
“Bloody Mary has its roots in Scotland as folk remedies for hangovers — something to push the demons out, so to speak,” Ben shared as we looked over his list of drinks. Spirits range from smoky mezcal to spicy pepper gin to scotch, no joke. They make their own bloody mix using tomato juice, homemade fire cider and other secret ingredients.
The Zelda, for instance, is named after Ben’s Siberian Husky: “She’s a creature of the north, so of course the bloody in her name is made with Aquavit – a Scandinavian spirit with notes of fennel and caraway,” shares Ben. Aquavit makes a great bloody – it may be Ben’s favorite.
MacDuff earned its name after Ben’s parents’ golden retriever and it is made with scotch and a touch of honey for a sweet and smoky sipper, kind of like the big bear of a golden retriever.
New Harvest will be open all winter on Sundays and the Arcade Market will run through the holidays.
If for some reason Bloody Marys are not what lifts your spirits, please grab an Irish Coffee or the Mule Intentions – a Masala Chai-infused vodka, with steamed spice cider and ginger, served hot.
In other words, head on down to New Harvest for the liquid courage refill you’ll need to finish your holiday shopping list.
