Self-care as a concept and an industry has seen a surge in the last five years. As people become more focused on taking care of themselves and are seeking traditional and non-traditional ways to do so, CBD and THC treatments have become one of those nontraditional methods. Also, several wellness centers have incorporated THC and CBD into traditional methods, such as massages and facials. One of those wellness centers is in Smithfield, Fox Wellness Day Spa.
As you arrive at Fox Wellness Day Spa, you instantly feel a sense of tranquility – the spa is set back in the woods, and as you enter, you experience a calmness in your soul. You’ll be greeted by do-it-all owner and massage therapist, Katelynn Volpigno. She bought the location a year ago and began rebranding it to become her own, giving it the name it has now. Since her last name translates to “little fox,” in Italian it makes perfect sense. Volpigno has been providing various kinds of treatments for 19 years and originally got into the business to follow in her father’s footsteps.
Volpigno and her longtime friend and esthetician for 10 years, Cait Cunha, offer a variety of services. Some of those services include massages of all different varieties, facials, back treatment, foot scrubs, and a multitude of add-ons, such as microdermabrasion, and LED light therapy. Volpigno and Cunha have also incorporated CBD products into their treatments for the last four years, since they discovered CBD Farmhouse at a spa convention. CBD Farmhouse is a brand whose initiative is “to develop quality, unique, and natural hemp products from pure, tested raw concentrates.” When asked why they decided to use CBD, Volpigno stated, “We love the idea of using all-natural products containing CBD because their healing properties have shown positive results for our customers.” As a customer myself, I not only recommend it, but have visited multiple times for the treatment.
CBD has been used by people for years, and has a proven track record of relaxing the body, decreasing inflammation, reducing pain, and decreasing anxiety. It also has specific benefits for men and women. For men, it has potential to improve heart health and sexual health, and in women, it has shown potential to decrease symptoms associated with PMS, including mood swings, bloating, and cramps. It should also be noted that CBD is not psychoactive and doesn’t produce a “high” feeling of intoxication. If you never used it but are curious, you can inform Volpigno during your visit, and she could use less during initial treatments.
With the apparent benefits listed above and more positive research coming out daily about the effects, the negative stigma continues to dissipate, and more people are trying this medicine for the first time. Obviously, with any type of medicine, make sure you do your own research, and if needed, consult your physician. •
