Before Roger Williams settled Providence in 1636, the Narragansetts and their ancestors lived on the shores of the Woony and Seekonk Rivers. Archaeologist, Jay Waller, Jr., will speak on the importance of regional waterways to ancient native peoples and archaeological sites buried by almost 400 years of city life. Paddle with the Woony crew and learn about 10,000 years of Native American History of the Woonasquatucket in Downtown PVD. This 4 mile, 2 hour trip on the river brings you from the hustle-bustle of the city to a wildlife haven you may have never known existed. Red-tailed hawks, great blue herons and painted turtle are common sights!
