Westerly composer Eliane Aberdam’s chamber opera In Our Own Voices will be performed on November 2 as a gift to the Westerly community on its 350th anniversary. The libretto, or script, written by Sarah Carleton, contains seven scenes exploring the story of two transracial adoptees as they search for their birth parents and the racism, loss and search for identity transracial adoptees often face.
A free performance of the 60-minute opera will take place on Nov 2 at 2pm in the Westerly Public Library followed by a Q&A session. The second performance will be at 8pm at the concert hall at URI’s Fine Arts Center. For tickets, call 401-874-2431.
