Picture this; you’re out on the town in Newport. Maybe you just finished some shopping at Bannister’s Wharf and don’t want to make the walk to dinner. Hail a pedicab! These economical modes of transportation have been serving tourists and Newport natives since around 2006, and I can see why! They’re economical and budget-friendly.
Newport Pedicab’s slogan is “take the ride, you’ll see,” which perfectly sums up the pedicab experience. And yes, it is an experience. As we know, Newport is always busy this time of year as tourists flock to the area. (Next time you travel, mention that you’re from Rhode Island, and nine times out of 10 people will smile and tell you how much they love visiting Newport.) Newport Pedicabs adds to the charm of Newport. Instead of piling into a cab, getting cozy in the back of a pedicab turns your trek into an adventure!
Getting around in a pedicab is stress free because they don’t get caught up in traffic. “Pedicab is about the ride as much as it is about the destination. ‘Transportainment’ we call it,” Newport Pedicab’s general manager Mike Kowalski explains. “When things get busy and taxi times are 30-plus minutes and Uber prices are on the surge, pedicabs can still be at your doorstep in 5 to 10 minutes.”
You can usually find a Newport Pedicab pedaling through the streets of Newport or at Bannister’s Wharf. During these busy months they operate from 10am – 2am, but will operate outside of these hours upon request.
Now how much is a pedicab ride going to cost you? It’s an open fare! Passengers pay what they feel is a fair wage for the experience. Kowalski explains, “We work entirely on generous tips.”
This isn’t just for a good night on the town, however. Newport Pedicabs is also available for special events and even corporate outings.
As if you didn’t need another reason to visit Newport this season, Newport Pedicabs gives you one! Do yourself a favor and make the trek over the bridge for some transportainment!
