One of the major tools of astrology is the annual Solar Return. Every year around a birthday
the Sun returns to the place it began at the birth time. This year, for Donald Trump, it falls on the day before. The Solar Return is a valuable tool to gain insight on the year ahead. Nothing will happen in the Solar Return unless the Natal chart holds promise.
Donald Trump was born at a Lunar Eclipse, with Sun in Gemini and Moon in Sagittarius. Born with a lucky trine between the “Greater Benefic,” Jupiter in Libra, the house of money, to the career house, of that maverick, Uranus. Throughout his life he has been incredibly lucky. Another important part of anyone’s horoscope is the Ascendant, the eastern point of the horoscope. The Ascendant tells a lot about the personality. Any planet close to the Ascendant brings a lot of personality and energy to the person. In this case it is no surprise that Trump has Mars, in Leo on the Ascendant. In Leo, you are going to hear him, in Mars, he is going to fight you. With this pair together he will never reveal what is happening personally. During his bout with COVID, he climbed those stairs at the White House. Did he or didn’t he have difficulty taking those stairs? If Donald Trump had respiratory issues, we will never know. With Leo Rising, the show must go on.
Mars goes retrograde every two years. This is his driver. This past year Mars went retrograde on December 6, 2024, 6 degrees of Leo and remained until February 23, 2025, where it went direct at 17 Cancer. At the Inauguration, retrograde Mars 24 Cancer sat between his Venus and Saturn. Here Mars is in the middle of what he desires and what duty calls. With Retro Mars, things did not go exactly as planned. It that time, it did not hit his Mars; it is now in range and the fighting has begun. He is now experiencing a Mars Return as well. He’s energized to say the least.
Born at an Eclipse, he resonates with Eclipses. The March 14, 2025 Lunar Eclipse was especially relevant during this time. And it is so now. This Lunar Eclipse had Pisces and Virgo which created a Grand Cross between his Sun and Moon. The Eclipse degrees will play across his Solar Return and also impact his natal Sun and Moon. Eclipse degrees come back to haunt you, for good or ill.
With the Solar Return, the position of the Sun at this time is of paramount of importance. Once again, his luck is running. Like his Mars, natal, at the Ascendant, (called an angle) his Sun holds another angle, the Midheaven, or MC at the Solar Return chart. This is the highest elevation in the chart. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that he is the boss.
There is a lot to unpack here. Solar Return, Mars Return, and Eclipse degrees are each having an impact on his life. He is not a private citizen. His actions and ideas have an impact on the world.
During the Inauguration Mars was Retrograde. Today it is direct and hitting his natal Mars. He is making up for lost time. Mars in the Ascendant brings a lot of energy. I think, whoever or whatever was in his way, is gone. It could be more than one person or situation. You will only hear about it if he wants people to hear. With Sun and Uranus in Gemini and that Jupiter hugging close, he’s a genius with the media.
As Mars moves away from Leo into Virgo on June 17, the energy shifts. Before this happens, Mars is going to careen with Uranus at the same time, Jupiter is going to hit Neptune. Mars and Uranus are his planets. He grooves with these guys. This is a conglomerate of energy. He will mix it up in his usual way.
Before Mars runs away to play, Mercury goes retrograde, on July 18, before it hits his all-important Mars. This will slow him down or give him some trouble with something he wants done that may have to wait in until Mercury goes direct in August. By July 28, Mars will hit the Eclipse degree and hit his Solar Return Ascendant. At the same time, it will hit his Sun and Moon as well. This should be a red-letter day for him. Don’t even think you can know what will happen. He is Gemini, with wild and crazy Uranus in conjunction with his Sun. With Uranus in the picture, what you know or think might happen, will never happen. Something else will happen that is beyond your ken. It will make perfect sense to Donald Trump.
This Mars will play across his 7th house of partners. For a head of state this house speaks of international relationships, allies becoming open enemies, and international arbitration. The condition of women, in diplomacy, makes them known. Whether they are diplomats or they need diplomatic assistance, he will be in there, stirring it up, friends or foes.
This Eclipse in March was a Lunar Eclipse across the Virgo/Pisces axis. When the Sun or another other planet hits those mutable signs for good or ill, planetary energy will hit him. And when it hits his Sun, it rocks around his whole chart. So, 23 degrees of Pisces, Gemini, and Sagittarius will be in play all year. There is much going on in his chart, all day, all year. This is enough to keep us all busy.
Mars is prominent and well placed, a strong Mars. Don’t fight him, he will only fight more. His Mercury is in Cancer. Ruled by Gemini, it is no surprise that he says what he feels. A governor on board will never happen. And of course, the Sun is in Gemini with Uranus right by his side. Uranus brings the chaos. I tell my students and clients, when it comes to Uranus, “If you can think of it, that ain’t it.” So, keep that in mind when you try to figure out Donald Trump.
