Looking for an April Fools’ Day cocktail that pranks you, but in a deliciously fun way?
Try the April Fools’ Martini. At first blush, it sounds like vodka mixed with green apple schnapps, aka an Appletini. Only it isn’t. Liquor.com says this cocktail is akin to, appropriately enough, fool’s gold. “Just like how the gold-hued metal has no actual gold in it, this light green concoction lacks any actual apple.”
It was created by Aisha Sharpe, cofounder of Contemporary Cocktails in the San Francisco Bay area, to fool you into thinking it’s an appletini, when in reality its bright green color “belies a complex modern craft cocktail,” relates the website boxesandbooze.com.
The ingredients are:
¾ oz. simple syrup, 5 fresh basil leaves, 1 ½ oz. Don Julio blanco tequila, ½ oz. Green Chartreuse, 1 oz. ruby red grapefruit juice, and ¾ oz. lime juice.
Here’s how to make it:
In a shaker, muddle the simple syrup and basil. Add the blanco tequila, Green Chartreuse, grapefruit and lime juice into the shaker, fill with ice, and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled Martini glass. To complete the charade, garnish with a thin apple slice.
Cheers to being foolish, on the day named for it.
