The party doesn’t have to end after Halloween weekend. Keep the festivities going with a trip back to the Roaring Twenties when the North American tour of The Great Gatsby visits the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) November 3-8.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic American novel, the musical transports audiences into a world of lavish parties and extravagant wealth, tinged with a sense of longing for what lies just out of reach. Featuring iconic imagery like the mysterious green light that beckons Gatsby from across the bay and the watchful eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg, The Great Gatsby captures all the glamour, romance and heartbreak of the Jazz Age. The estate of F. Scott Fitzgerald endorsed the production, saying, in part, “This stage production, which honors the novel and its history while also speaking clearly to today’s audiences, is a terrific new iteration of this classic work.”

The Great Gatsby’s dazzling, Tony Award®-winning costume design includes glittering flapper dresses and sharply tailored tuxedos, while its score blends jazz influences with contemporary pop to evoke the spirit of the Jazz Age, but also to connect the story with today’s audiences.

More than a century after its publication, The Great Gatsby’s themes of lost love, ambition, reinvention and the pursuit of the American Dream continue to resonate with readers and audiences. Since it was released in 1925, the novel has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. The novel has been translated into more than 42 languages, and has been adapted into television shows, radio plays, video games, and multiple films – including the blockbuster Baz Luhrmann feature film starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

The musical opened on Broadway in 2024, where it continues to play at the Broadway Theatre. The production has also been staged in the West End and in Seoul, South Korea, which highlights the international or even universal appeal of this timeless story.

As autumn gives way to November, with its fallen leaves and longer nights, audiences in Providence can step into the world of Gatsby, where they can experience the party to end all parties and all of the elegance and excess of the 1920s Jazz Age, at the Providence Performing Arts Center!
