“movement & meditation” is a virtual photography exhibit and video collaboration between Ian Travis Barnard and Festival Ballet Providence. Sponsored by The Avenue Concept and Paolino Properties, “movement & meditation” captures through motion the variety of emotions dancers experienced during 2020, a year that brought uncertainty to performing artists and arts organizations.
The virtual exhibit includes two videos. One is a behind-the-scenes view of the photography, shot with commentary from Barnard and Dylan Giles, marketing director for Festival Ballet Providence. The other video gives a virtual tour of the exhibit with a dancer highlighting the captured images through dance.
Barnard captures striking moments of the dancers, many en I’air (in the air), partnered with fabric and each other. The motion of the dancers is center stage and is a stunning documentary of the uncertainty performing arts and artists experienced in 2020.
