Why: Russell’s first CD earned her Best New Artist honors from WUMB-FM in 2001 and she is a two-time Kerrville New Folk Finalist. Her most recent CD, All Our Luck Is Changing, produced by Grammy nominee Peter Case was named a “masterpiece” by American Songwriter magazine. Russell is known for her unique voice as both a songwriter, and as a vocalist.
Unusual Factoids: Russell is a third generation professional signer. Her father, Val Rosing, was best known as the vocalist on the original BBC Recordings of “Teddy Bears Picnic” and “Try A Little Tenderness” in the 1930s. Her grandfather, Vladmir Rosing, was a Russian opera tenor who performed at Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and started the Eastman School of Music’s opera program.
