Locale Profiles: G Pub

Walk about halfway down Orange Street. Open the rather nondescript door on the side of the recently renovated G Building. Descend down a wide stairwell and you’ll discover Providence’s newest member of the food and bar landscape: G Pub.

Part gastropub, part sports bar, part social scene, this spacious underground spot offers easy views of bargoers and televisions alike. In other words, you can order a beer, check the game and eye that candy all at the same time.

High ceilings, hewn tables and crafted metalwork distract from the fact you’re below street level without a window in sight. The place feels airy, open and fun. Not that cheesy manufactured fun, but the “there’s a couple of pool tables and a shuffleboard if you want” kind of fun. G Pubbers can also rent private party rooms for karaoke with draft on hand.

Speaking of draft, the bar serves up nearly 30 beers on tap as well as numerous bottle and can formats. And what better to have with beer than American-spun-and-re-spun menu items? G Pub features what can only be described as comfort foods for adults. For instance, hot dogs piled with pulled pork and homemade slaw, tomato bisque and the so-much-better-than-college-days ramen tribute. Pull up a chair for a reserved booth, grab a seat at the lengthy but often crowded bar, or angle up to that cutie at the community tables. Either way, find a seat and enjoy G Pub.
