Summer Strolling

You can complain about the potholes and the corruption or you can cheer about our vibrant arts community and quirky population, but what easily gets lost between these two extremes is how interesting a history our little state has. This summer, we are making the novel suggestion that you be a tourist in your hometown and read that plaque you walk by every day or figure out what that statue over there commemorates.

Providence Walks makes it easy for you would-be experts to spend an afternoon learning about a PVD neighborhood. They’ve created several different self-guided walking tours including downtown, the East Side, the West Side and the latest tour, which launched last month, the Jewelry District. Pick up a map at a visitors center, or go to goprovidence.com/things-to-do/providence-walking-tours where you can print a map pdf and hit the streets for a little walkabout.
