Motif Film Screenings

Looking for a laidback, outdoor summer event? The Motif Magazine Film Screening series is a monthly event where chosen local short films are shown. It takes place on the ramp outside of Revival Brewery in Providence, with food and drink available inside.

At each screening there is a different theme, from horror to sci-fi to LGBTQ+. The screening series partners with different film and niche festivals to make this possible. PVD Horror, Rhode Island International Film Festival, SENE and the Vortex Film Festival all lend a hand in ensuring  themed film screening nights happen. Films are projected onto a 22 ft screen.

Revival Brewery and their in-house, full-service restaurant Lost Valley Pizza provide the food and drink for the evening. Attendees can make their way inside to peruse the drink and food menu, with offerings as eclectic as habanero salsa shrimp pizza and raw honey cognac mimosa and, of course, all of Revival’s brews.

Before each screening a local musician performs a 15-20 minute intimate, acoustic-esque set to warm everyone up for the film. Performers have included Stephen Couture, FINE., Chance Emerson and Jenn Lombari.

Once it’s dark enough, the films begin. Everyone in the audience receives a voting ballot upon entry, and at the end of the night votes are tallied and most popular shorts announced. Prizes include cash, gift cards, and bragging rights of course. While people vote and turn in their ballots, anyone in the crowd who was part of a short film shown that night is invited up for a Q & A and talkback with the audience.

The series puts an emphasis on working with local filmmakers and creating time before and after the films to talk to other makers. If you know of local filmmakers looking for screening opportunities, send them to Motif at publisher@motifri.com.

The series is sponsored by R1 Indoor Karting, Trinity Brewhouse, Maravilla Productions, SENE, RIIFF, and Revival Brewing.
