The War in Kids – Tilting at Windmills
With their third EP Tilting at Windmills, RI-based group The War in Kids is back to ensure that the pop-punk sound reminiscent of the early 2000s is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Evocative of groups such as Bowling for Soup, Blink-182, and Good Charlotte, not only is the songwriting capable of standing toe-to-toe with some of the genre’s household names, the performances all around from each band member are nothing short of first class. They are breathing new life into a previously dying style of music. While the project maintains a high energy and youthful sound, more mature themes such as coping with anxiety, loneliness, and internal strife can be found as well, only further proving the group’s writing ability. With a local climate that seems to be chock-full of funk, indie, and cover bands (although there is nothing wrong with any of those genres), this resurgence in the poppunk space is undoubtedly a welcome breath of fresh air. Whether you’re looking to indulge in a nostalgic sound, or are just looking for some top-tier musicianship, Tilting at Windmills is a project you won’t want to miss. •
