Heat Advisory Tue 11am – Thu 7pm: Uncomfortably hot with heat index values up to 100°F expected

Heat Advisory in effect from July 15, 11:00 AM EDT until July 17, 07:00 PM EDT

At Providence, a Heat Advisory is in effect Tue 11am through Thu 7pm, likely to be extended into Fri, with temperatures/heat indices reaching 85°F/94°F (Tue), 88°F/98°F (Wed), 86°F/97°F (Thu), and 87°F/94°F (Fri). Temperature/heat index will decline somewhat after the advisory period, remaining comfortably hot, 82°F/83°F (Sat) and 80°F/83°F (Sun).

While chance of precipitation is negligible Tue and Wed, it will reach 40% Thu and 25% Fri, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms.

The heat index is an estimate of the “apparent temperature” based on the combined temperature in the shade as measured by an ordinary dry bulb thermometer and the relative humidity. Conditions in direct sunlight will usually be substantially hotter. The body loses the ability to regulate its temperature by evaporating sweat, possibly causing severe illness such as heat stroke, which is life-threatening, as heat index this high can cause death. If outside, curtail strenuous activity, stay hydrated, take breaks, and seek shade when possible. Do not leave children or pets in vehicles. Check on elderly and other vulnerable people, especially if they have no air conditioning.
