Heat Advisory until July 25, 08:00 PM EDT

At Providence, a Heat Advisory is in effect through Fri 8pm with temperatures/heat indices reaching 93°F/102°F (Fri). Temperature/heat index will decline after the advisory period, remaining comfortably hot, 83°F/83°F (Sat) and 80°F/82°F (Sun).

Chance of rain Fri, with possibly severe thunderstorms, will exceed 20% between 1pm and 9pm, peaking at 55% at 5pm, as a passing front will lead to a drop in temperature. Chance of rain Sun will peak at 20% centered on the few hours before and after 5pm.

The heat index is an estimate of the “apparent temperature” based on the combined temperature in the shade as measured by an ordinary dry bulb thermometer and the relative humidity. Conditions in direct sunlight will usually be substantially hotter. The body loses the ability to regulate its temperature by evaporating sweat, possibly causing severe illness such as heat stroke, which is life-threatening, as heat index this high can cause death. If outside, curtail strenuous activity, stay hydrated, take breaks, and seek shade when possible. Do not leave children or pets in vehicles. Check on elderly and other vulnerable people, especially if they have no air conditioning.
