Providence Polaroid Project is a temporary Polaroid camera shop, instant film gallery, and participatory portrait studio in Downcity Providence. Conceived as a response to PopUp Providence, the city’s first tactical urbanism initiative, locals, students, and curious tourists are combining efforts to capture and exhibit Providence’s collective portrait.
Located at 235 Westminster St and the project is free, open to the community, and participation is strongly encouraged. Acting as an analog intervention in a digital world, co-‐creators Devan Durante and Brandon Lane, invite guests to admire, purchase, and shoot some of its extensive Polaroid camera collection. A free project membership earns a participant an instant portrait, use of a loaner camera to snap three images of the city, and an invitation to pick up one’s portrait at the project’s gallery night to be held on Thursday, August 21st.
Each project portrait represents a moment in time in which a guest was present, inspired, and connected to Providence. This summer, help make Providence an instant city.
